stranded in small towns

So, you’re stuck in a small town. What do you do? Good news, it’s the best place to be when in a scrape. People will go out of their way to help you. It will come very naturally to them because they do it all the time.

Things to do in the meantime:
Take naps, wonderful naps.
Help your friend paint her bedroom.
Eat mulberries and strawberries at every opportunity.
Go to the park.
Go to church.
Go cruising.
Walk in the middle of the street.
Have lunch at grandma’s house (she doesn’t have to be your grandma for this to work).
Rent a movie from the gas station (using a friend’s movie rental card because your family has racked up large fines and you want to avoid that liability. Been there done that!!)
Read auction flyers at the gas station while waiting for your pizza/calzones/mozzarella sticks.
Talk to people in the grocery store.
Ponder never leaving because of how nice it is to slow down.
Realize you have to leave or you’ll turn into a slice of gas station pizza.

  1. Frances, I love this!! And I can relate! It’s encouraging to see how you are enjoying the small town life. My favorites from your list are lunch at Grandma’s, though not my Grandma. πŸ™‚ And: “Talk to people in the grocery store.
Ponder never leaving because of how nice it is to slow down.”

So for my own list, I think I would add….
    Go to the tiny parades.
Frequently help visitors find their way when they stop and ask because you know the town as well as you know your favorite ice cream.
    Eat ice cream.
Have a group of friends over and play croquet with makeshift wickets from wire coat hangers.
Go pick fresh herbs and kale from your garden to cook dinner.
Laugh when you ask a friend, “Do you know so-and-so?” because you temporarily forget that of course she does because everyone knows everyone.
Neglect your car because you can ride your bike!

Hmm….maybe I should write my own post about this… πŸ™‚
    Thanks for sharing!!

    • ice cream!! Of course. Walking to the c-mart to get an ice cream cone was something I did many times per week every summer growing up!

Yep your list is awesome! And I think you should do your own post! πŸ™‚
