Day 9: Still here

Today: quiet. Much of the time I rush around, I get things done, I read, watch, browse, listen, multi-task. I am distracted. It is tiring. It seems that my brain wants to rapidly skip from one thing to another, struggling to focus, to slow down. How much do I really see, or hear, or understand?

So on Day 9, my memory tip is: be still. One of the greatest gifts memorization has given me is that with it I counteract the effects of this fast-paced, stressful culture. It helps me stay with the word of God, not skim through it. It calms and quiets my mind, training it to be here… not fretting over something that already happened, or jumping anxiously to what lies ahead.

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
-1 Peter 1:18-19

And again- so beautiful, what a gift- don’t rush… stay here, still:

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
-1 Peter 1:18-19
